Add items to orders with Clover®
You can add items to orders by directly selecting them, searching your item inventory, or by scanning barcodes. As you enter the order, you can also add custom items. Any time before you take payment, you can remove items.
Add items using Search
- Start in the Register app on your Clover device.
- Select the Scan barcode or search field.
- Enter item name, SKU, or product code.
- You can find SKUs and product codes using the Inventory app.
- Tap to select the item from the search results.
- If this sale includes multiples of this item, select the quantity on the QTY bar at the top.
- Tap Add.
Add items using Barcode Scanner
If you’ve scanned a barcode to add an item to your inventory, you can scan the item to add it to an order.
- Start in the Register app on your Clover device.
- Tap the barcode icon at the lower left. The camera switches on and you’ll see the image it sees.
- Hold the item in front of the camera.
- Scan the item barcode.
- If this sale includes more than one of this item, select the quantity on the QTY bar at the top.
- Tap Add.
Add custom items
If a customer wants to buy an item you don’t have in your inventory, you can add the item to the order as a custom item.
- Start in the Register app on your Clover device.
- Select Add.
- Enter information about the custom item:
- Use the number pad to set a price for the custom item.
- Next to Quantity, tap the number and use the number pad to set the quantity for this sale.
- Next to Item Name, tap Edit and name your custom item.
- To apply your default tax rate to the custom item, check the box to Apply Default Taxes. If you have no default tax rate set up, the system charges no tax.
- If you want to add the custom item to your inventory now, check the box to Add to Inventory.
- To add only this item and return to the order screen, tap Add item.
- To add this item and more, tap Add & Create Another.
Additional Custom Item Features
Managers can set up the system to send custom items to specific order printers. To do this, go to the Setup app > Order Receipts > Order receipt print timing and select one of the following options:
- Print when hitting Pay. Prints all items, including custom items, in the order.
- Print when hitting Pay. Only prints items with kitchen printer labels (make sure this box is also checked: Print manually instead of firing if an item does not have a printer label).
- Print when hitting Save. Only prints items with kitchen printer labels (make sure this box is also checked: Print manually instead of automatically if an item does not have a printer label).
Add items priced by weight
A weight scale is required to add these items. (If you have items priced per-unit that do not have to be weighed, just add the number of units in the Quantity field.)
If you want to be able to exclude the weight of containers holding your products, weigh the container and use that weight as a tare weight when you make your sale.
- On your Clover device, open the Register app.
- Select the item priced by weight.
- Place the item on the weight scale attached to your Clover device.
- To subtract the weight of the container holding the item, tap Set Tare and enter the tare weight on the number pad.
- Tap Add.
After adding a priced per-unit item to an order, you won’t be able to edit the tare weight. Make sure the numbers are correct before you tap Add.
Change item quantities during orders
You can change item quantities two ways:
- Incrementally. After adding an item to the order, tap the item name in the Order section and use the Minus or Plus buttons. You can also tap the quantity number itself to bring up a keypad. Tap Done.
- Using the QTY bar. For all devices except Clover Flex, you can use the QTY Quantity bar at the top of the screen. Not seeing the QTY bar? On the Register home page, tap Menu at the top left, select Settings, and check the box to Enable quantity (QTY) bar on items screen.
The quantity bar has a set of preset numbers and a CUSTOM option. You can change any of the preset numbers except 1 by tapping and holding the number, then entering a new preset number. Changing preset numbers is device-specific; any changes you make on one device will not affect the preset numbers on your other devices.
You might need to get permission to change quantities to zero. Then you’ll be removing the item before payment.
