Hello! My name is Austin, I have been living in the Seattle area for about a year and a half. I’m originally from the greatest small town in the world, Story City, Iowa. It was a great place to grow up, where I spent my summers as a kid fishing, playing disc golf, and later on working in the corn fields (yes they really are everywhere).
I attended Iowa State University for my undergraduate degree, initially with a goal to become a physical therapist. It was only after realizing how many chemistry classes were required to accomplish this that I changed my major to Finance. Though I had been raised supporting Texas A&M, I quickly fell in love with Iowa State and it remains near and dear to my heart to this day.
There are so many experiences in my life that influenced my path, it’s hard to know where to begin. Working at the Iowa State Foundation for nearly my entire college career certainly made an impact. I learned how much I enjoyed working with people and it taught me to communicate in uncomfortable situations. I also had to learn how to move on after being told “no”. Moving out to Seattle for Whirlpool and everything it involved certainly changed me. Moving to a new place where you know no one is difficult. The experience of doing this and learning a new job was very valuable and I would do it all over again. Most significant of all, if I hadn’t moved out here, I would have never met my fiancee, Christina. This all brought me to where I am now: Gravity Payments.
Ok now for some fun, mildly interesting facts about me.
- I raised $80,000 for Iowa State University.
- I could dunk a basketball when I was 14.
- I am 6’5″ and left handed, so basically nothing in the world is designed for me
I think I have gained a lot of experience that will help me contribute to Team Gravity as an Account Manager. I will use my background at the Iowa State Foundation to effectively communicate with our clients about issues big and small. In this role, I will be managing hundreds of accounts. In the past two years at Whirlpool while working in the field, I was solely responsible for myself and my accounts. I think this experience will be very useful in organizing my time effectively at Gravity, maintaining relationships with many accounts, and being responsible for taking action that benefits my accounts and benefits Team Gravity.
