Point of sale POS with Gravity Payments

POS (Point-of-Sale) SystemsPOS

At Gravity Payments, we offer a wide variety of credit card processing POS (point-of-sale) systems because we don’t think businesses should be a one-size-fits-all approach. Often, credit card processing companies will only offer one point-of-sale system to their customers, limiting their options to find the right solution that fits their individual business needs. We want to put the power back in independent businesses hands by providing POS systems with features that fit perfectly for how small businesses want to process. Some of these features include 3G network connection, Bluetooth, WiFi, EMV, NFC, Apple Pay, magnetic stripe, mobile, sales reporting, customer management, employee management, inventory management, menu customization, and more.

FAQ’s About POS

What is a POS (Point-of-Sale) system?

POS or point-of-sale system is a combination of hardware and software that enables business owners to manage the day-to-day operations of their business, complete credit card payment processing, cash payment processing, and take in data for analytics and reporting purposes.

What are the typical hardware components of a POS system?

POS systems usually include a wide range of hardware options that can be utilized depending on each business’ unique needs. Keyboards, cash drawers, credit/debit card swipers, EMV chip card dippers, NFC card readers for Apple Pay or Samsung Pay and other contactless options, pin pads, and a receipt printer. The system usually includes a touch screen monitor that is used as the primary input device for ringing up customer orders, organizing schedules, monitoring sales information, and more. Often these devices can be tablets such as iPads or larger PC based models. In addition, some businesses may take advantage of barcode scanners, scales, and customer facing displays.

What are the typical software components of a POS system?

POS systems typically support a wide range of software functionality built into one operating system. Every industry requires specific needs to be met and, as a result, a massive array of POS software is available to address each individual need. Below is a list of common POS software features:

Sales Reporting and Analytics

Many POS software providers empower business owners to use the data collected by the POS system in order to operate more effectively. This includes automatically tracking sales figures, labor, inventory, promotion effectiveness, and more. This information allows businesses to make informed decisions about how they operate. Often information can be cloud stored by the POS vendor which allows business owners to view the information off-site from home or on a mobile device.

Customer Management

Often POS software includes varying degrees of customer management. This enables business owners to collect data on purchase history (among other information) allowing business owners to identify and cater to their customer base.

Employee Management

Scheduling, time clocks, and tracking hours are all functions seen in many POS systems. These functions allow business owners to keep their stores staffed correctly without playing the guessing game. Monitor peak traffic hours to know when to staff up or when to staff down. Additionally, don’t second guess when employees are on the clock or not.

Inventory Management

Know exactly how much product you are using, what moves quickly, and what is lagging behind, so you’re never wasting any money on items that aren’t selling. For restaurants, this is often a great tool to ensure you are not letting perishables spoil or being forced into 86-ing your most popular items.

Can you process EMV cards with POS systems?

Many EMV terminals work with POS systems and can easily be integrated to include EMV processing. Gravity Payments can help you find what POS system you like, then define which EMV terminal best fits both your needs and that of the POS system of your choice. For more information on terminals, click here.

But, what is EMV? It stands for Europay, MasterCard, Visa and is currently the most secure way to run transactions from a credit or debit card.
