I have lived my whole life in sunny San Diego and I love it here. My parents grew up in the Philippines very poor and worked hard to move to the US to have a better life. They met in San Jose where I was born and ended up moving to San Diego because they didn’t want my sister and me to live in an area surrounded by gangs and drugs. I grew up very fortunate compared to how my parents were raised by having my own bed, let alone my own bedroom. They both had over 10 brothers and sisters and slept on the floor most nights. I have been blessed to be able to grow up here in the US and to raise my own family with my wife, Jennica, and my son, Camden, who recently turned one on March 15.
I love sports in general and play basketball every week, either in a league or just a pick up game. Its been awhile since I’ve trained in MMA, but I love sparring, especially rolling in jiu-jitsu. Living in San Diego, you get to be surrounded by so many outdoor sports that skiing, snowboarding, surfing, and biking are your usual norms either monthly or weekly if you can get to it.
I love music and dance a lot. Music is actually what brought my wife and I together. Jennica and I met at the church choir she leads. I help direct the kids with her as best as I can. I danced during college and high school and competed with hip hop dance teams.
Everyone has experiences that continually mold and shape them to who they are today. I think personally for myself, I’ve recently got married and my son, who just turned one, have shaped me to be a stronger, caring, and loving person everyday. Their love continues to push me to better myself in every aspect from excelling at work to being a better husband and father.
I have always found myself to connect easily to people, because I take a big interest in just knowing a person. My parents were really open to everyone. And I mean everyone. If people were having problems and couldn’t afford living on their own, they would help them out by giving them a roof over their head and some food to eat. I’ve taken that open arms mentality and use it at Gravity to make sure I help merchants as best I can and to treat them like friends and family rather than just merchants.
Fun Fact – I broke my left forearm in half and I’ve had titanium rods and screws in their for over 10 years.
