If your internet, phone line, or computer ever goes down, you’ll need to follow these steps to take a manual payment:
- Obtain voice authorization from an automated voice-authorization system
- Take a manual imprint of the credit card
- Force the transaction on your POS system once it’s back online.

Note on cards without raised numbers/letters: You cannot perform manual transactions on these types of cards. If a customer tries to dip or swipe a card that does not have raised lettering/numbering, and the transaction fails, you must ask for another form of payment. If they don’t have another form of payment, you’re advised to refuse the sale.
